For an unprecedented third time, Grayshott has won “Best Village” award in the 2007 ‘Love Your Village’ Calor Hampshire Village of the Year Competition.
Buy In Grayshott (BIG) coordinator Dick Smith, who together with Phil Bates, prepared Grayshott’s entry to the competition, said: “We are surprised and delighted that the Judges have awarded yet another prize to the village. The competition is getting tougher every year and more and more villages are entering. Some people suggested that we couldn’t possibly do well again but due to everyone’s hard work coupled with the huge range of activities in the village, Grayshott has done it again!”
Lead Judge, Jane Harrop, commented on the tremendously high enthusiasm of all the entrants and considered Grayshott among the most active and progressive villages in Hampshire.
Phil Bates added: “The award is a real recognition of all that goes on in the Village, our shops and businesses, our clubs and leisure activities, support for old and young – and our community website. Grayshott has so much to offer. It’s good that the Judges recognise the spirit of the village too.”
Grayshott won awards in 2005 and 2002 when a special national prize for Business in the Community was won, a feat which has not been equalled by any other village in the country in the 11 years of the competition. This year Grayshott has been judged “Best Village in East Hampshire”.
Prizes will be presented by Ian Christie of Calor at the Intech Science Centre Winchester, on Saturday 13th October.
