are a new young band from Northern Ireland. They have yet to tour the UK
and Grayshott will be their first ever gig on the mainland. They may be a new
band but they are all experienced musicians and a quick look at their website
will tell you that they have already begun to gather up musical awards by the
armful. Their first album “River Waiting” has been well received.
In her album review, Claire Rakich from Spiral Earth described it as:
“an excellent debut that is original, ethereal and exuberant”
“This is Irish music at its most refreshing, accomplished and original best”.
Connla’s music has deep traditional roots as well as influences from
across the globe. Their sensitive and innovative arrangements of traditional
and modern folk songs and tunes have earned them praise across the folk
community. Having met whilst studying Music at Ulster University, they quickly
began performing together and developing friendships.
They hail from the cities of Armagh and
Derry: Ciara McCafferty (vocals), Ciaran Carlin (whistles) and Paul Starrett
(guitar) are familiar faces on the local music scene, and are joined by Armagh
siblings Emer and Conor Mallon on harp and uilleann pipes.
We love traditional Irish/Celtic Folk
music at Grayshott Folk Club and we are delighted to introduce our audience to
some newcomers who are starting to make big waves across the Irish Sea.
Support: Pepper & Shepherd-two
gentlemen of Folk from London Town, who make a return visit to Grayshott.
