Number 1 Veteran Car Restorer of Grayshott

Grayshott resident Richard Peskett, specialist restorer of Veteran Cars, this year had in his charge, on behalf of the Louwman Collection at Holland and Bonhams, the oldest car taking part in this years London to Brighton veteran car run held on November 6th.

100_0586The car, entry number 1, a Peugeot dating from early 1895. prepared by Richard made the entire 60 mile  journey from Hyde Park to Brighton in just over seven and a half hours running time with no problems only stopping for fuel.

Driven by Charlie Brooks, son of Bonham’s chairman Robert Brooks, it was the first time that Charlie had driven without the assistance of his father who unfortunately could not make this years event because of business commitments.

100_6250The car has the engine at the back, 2 cylinder in ‘V’ formation, four speeds, the gearbox is open without a casing, runs on normal petrol, pre dating the use of spark plugs the ignition is effected by ‘hot tube’, these being tubes  that are heated by a flame  and when the mixture is compressed it is ignited by the tube which glows red/orange hot , located in a box on the side of the engine.
