Is this our most ambitious project yet ? .. If you’ve ever struggled to master a musical instrument, spare a moment for the thousands of youngsters who would love to perform with a professional orchestra. And now they can!
Grayshott Concerts, in partnership with Hampshire Music Service, are inviting up to 40 of the district’s most promising young string players (grades 2-8) to Grayshott on Saturday 18th February 2017 for a musical workshop and evening concert with the illustrious London Mozart Players.
“Applications are flooding in,” says artistic director Vivien Harrison, “so we’re preparing for a very exciting and inspiring day.” To prove the popularity of the event, local supporters have been invited to ‘Sponsor a Young Musician’ by donating £50 for each youngster to raise funds to cover costs.
“The response has been astonishing,” says organiser Peter Harrison. “We’ve never tried anything as challenging as this before but we’re well on the way to reaching our target.” More information on how young string players can apply to attend the day, is available at www.hants.gov.uk/hms
The day will be spent in a morning workshop in small groups with professional players from London Mozart Players followed by an afternoon rehearsal preparing for the evening performance starting at 7.00pm at St Luke’s Church Grayshott, GU26 6LF. The concert will include works performed by the young performers on their own; also side-by side together with members of the world famous orchestra; and also the professionals will themselves perform well-known classical works to complete the entertainment.
The programme will include Grieg’s “Holberg Suite” together with “Fiddler’s Hill” specially written for young performers of all grades and will be conducted by composer Jeff Moore.
Grayshott Concerts are especially keen to attract new concert-goers to hear the internationally recognised London Mozart Players, so have decided to make all tickets FREE for the event. Entry is by FREE Ticket Only, available on-line from 15th January direct from the organisers at www.grayshottconcerts.co.uk. Those attending will be invited to make a donation to the retiring collection.
