Grayshott Parish Council is delighted to announce that the first Grayshott Community Gardening Week will run from 8 – 13th April 2017.
This will be an opportunity for the whole community to come together to tackle gardening projects in the village and most importantly to find out what the Parish Council does for Grayshott community spaces.
John Frankcom, Chairman of the Parish Council stated ‘we have numerous groups and individuals who work so hard as volunteers to maintain and improve our village that we thought this would be a good chance to celebrate their achievements as well as give the Parish Councillors an occasion to meet our electorate and listen to their views with regard to our village community spaces.’
By good fortune Grayshott Gardeners, the very active and successful village gardening club are hosting a Spring Show on Saturday 8th April from 2-4pm in the Village Hall where members of the public can see what grows well in the area. Refreshments are available and entry is free.
Monday 10th April at 12 noon sees the official planting of the new village tree in Headley Road (outside Wayside Flats) which replaces the landmark beech that regrettably succumbed to disease. The ceremony will be honoured by Glenn Myers, Managing Director of Grayshott Pottery who are celebrating 50 years of trading in the Village. Also that day the Grayshott School community will be tidying their garden areas and preparing their veggie beds for planting. Each pupil that helps with this will also be able to plant a sunflower seed to take home and nurture.
Tuesday 11th April at 10am sees the Parish Councillors and the community gardeners tidy up the village community spaces in preparation for the season ahead. We are seeking additional volunteers for this activity so if you can help please email email@example.com.
On Wednesday 12th April at 10am children under 12 and their parents are invited to meet at Lyndon Green Childrens Play area to take part in an Easter treasure hunt on Lyndon Green.
Also on Wednesday 12th April from 10.30-12.30 parishioners are invited to join Councillors for coffee and a chat at Grayshott Village Hall to view an exhibition of the work of the Parish Council. Grayshott Gardening Club and the Village Allotmenteers will also be on hand to answer your gardening questions as well as the Hidden Gardens of Grayshott with more information about the Village Open Gardens weekend in May. Councillor Frankcom said ‘we do hope as many people as possible will come and meet us as its very important for the Council to get feedback from those we serve.’
Again by good fortune, Grayshott Gardeners, have a club night in the Village Hall on the Wednesday evening at 8pm. Mark Saunders, Head Gardener of Fittleworth House will provide useful tips on how to get good garden photos. Non members most welcome at a charge of £5.
The activities culminate on Thursday 13th April with an easy 90 minute guided walk around the centre of the Village led by local historian John Childs where attendees will gain valuable insights into the history of some of Grayshott’s important trees. Meet at the Millennium sign on the Village Green at 10am. Places are limited to 12, but subject to demand John is willing to do another walk at 2pm. Pre-booking for this walk is, therefore, essential and contact details are below. You could contact the office on the day if you want to check availability of spaces.
